Limitless: Movie Trailer

7 Jan

The whole concept of this new movie seems quit interesting. It deals with one of the subjects of transhumanity that we want to focus on.

Here are a few sentences for you to know what the movie is all about:

Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unpublished writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret smart drug that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. His enhanced abilities soon attract shadowy forces that threaten his new life in this darkly comic and provocative film.

What is your opinion about increasing your intelligence by for example using such ‘drugs’ or implementing little chips into your brain?

Anything that would make my life more complete, more enjoyable, more powerful would do. I am not so interested in drugs, because of my concern about any kind of side effects. If we want to take advantage of the future technologies, our first goal right now is to live longer and healthier so that we will be here when the time comes.
Human enhancement trough different technologies, like chips or even the melting of human into the A.I., is of the utmost interest for me.

I understand your opinion of enhancing yourself. Every human wants to become better.

But why should live even longer then nowadays? We are almost 7 billion human on earth. And look what we have done to it.

We are destroying the nature in order to satisfy our needs. So if we would live longer, there would be even more humans on the planet. Ergo: a bigger and faster destruction.

Is the earth able to handle it? And we will find some solutions? I don’t think so.

yeah stacy i share your opinion.

why should we live forever. i mean if we have the chance to live a life without ailments or at least lesser, i think it will be pleasent enough eventough we are not immortal.

I am not sure if mother nature will handle us, if we go on like we do and even worsen our behaviour.
I already said it, to my opinion, if we enhance human living we should enhance animal and plant living as well. this would be a nice resolution. but i think we as “HUMAN” are to selfish to even think of mother nature or animals.

Yes you are right. I really agree with you on your points. We concerns me the most about becoming a superhuman is who will be able to get in touch with such chips or even drugs? Who much do they costs? Will everybody be able to become a superhuman?

I think this is a huge problem because what makes YOU so special that you are able to get a chip that enhances your body? At the end it is all about money. Imagine if only a few people are able to get such chips … this is going to split the world in two parts. Humans vs. superhumans. Now the other scenario … imagine everybody is able to get such chips and we are all becoming superhumans. Being able to do everything you want like being the fastest, smartest and so will be the new standard. What’s beyond that?

We always want to be the best, to know everything but happens when we are able to be the best? Being a superhuman takes away the meaning of life … we always ned things to strive after.

I think this will be reality in near future. It is a proven point, that we only use small parts of our brain as well as physical capabilities. Thus, it is just a matter of time untill scientist will provide a key to unlock the rest of our brain and physical features.
The question is, what’s the price for being a supermind.
Do you really think the world will become a better place?
Yes, we all hope wish and desire a world withoug war and hatred, but don’t ever forget, it’s been quiet a long time since man developed from caveman to an intelligent, techno-based man, and still there is violence.
I am 100% optimistic, but also 100% realistic.

I hope we will use the comming technologies to cure diseases, improve the conditions for the neglected and forgotten, save the nature and so on.
If we just use it for selfish reasons, that you and me can live longer maybe eternal, I think it will be a placebo development, and actually nothing really changes.

Another question that comes to my mind, if we can use technology like that, we should we continue to compete. If everybody is a superhuman, there won’t be competition anymore. Maybe the competition of who is owner of the most powerful chipset, but not who is the strongest, fastest, smartest, bravest…

    so far

This tale sounds like a darker version of Lawnmower Man, which is a retelling of Flowers for Algernon. Check them out.

I expect that there will be things we give up when we move into the transhuman phase of our species existence. We gave up a lot to get to the current state, too. I don’t expect that we’re going to transform like Icarus, though.

      What about the human feelings?

They are a major attribute if the human race.

Should we leave the feelings behind in order to make more rational and reasonable decisions?

Well being able to use 100% of my brain does not sound that bad. Because, even if you are able to learn faster, think faster, etc. this does not mean that you will not have more to learn. Humans strive for the unknown. So using 100% of the brain would accelerate the process of discovering.

We would gain unknown knowledge much faster which would make us more intelligent.

So after that we have two scenarios.

First: we gain the knowledge in a shorter time and use the rest of the time, we normally needed, to do other things.

Second: we use the same amount of time we use nowadays for research to advance much faster. This would also lead to a general accelaration of the Human life.
